After the Rain

After the rain, it all looked different-
I no longer saw the skies as gray
instead they were a protective shield
keeping the rawness of my emotions at bay

After the rain, it all smelled different-
I was no longer reminded of must and mold
instead I was entranced by the dirt and pine
the freshness of life filling me with something fragile yet bold

After the rain, it all sounded different-
instead of a distracting drumming keeping me from sleep
a newfound silence permeated my being
and I could find within me something comforting and deep

After the rain, it all felt different-
the rain was no longer cruel with its cold, sharp fingers
instead it drew me out from my mind to my skin
I noticed in my soul how its soothing caress lingers

After the rain, it all tasted different-
instead of the bitterness of dread and depression
there was the sweetness of a new perspective
and a discovered sense of joy and self-expression
